Accept What You Can’t Control
Lao Tzu, the author of The Tao Te Ching, stated, “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”
The Tao states we should let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like, but the truth is you have no choice in the matter. Things outside of your control will move forward as they will, whether you like it or not, or whether you accept them or not. You have no control over them whatsoever.
What you do have control over is whether you accept the way things are. You must accept what is before you can decide how to respond to what is happening. Don’t wish for them to be anything other than what they are, as that is an exercise in futility. See things as they truly are, then respond to them or just move on.
