Destroy Your Enemy with Forgiveness!
Hating someone makes him important.
Forgiving him makes him obsolete. Zen Proverb
When you hate someone, no matter what that person has done to you or why you hate him, he is constantly on your mind. Moreover, while he is living rent free in your mind, he most likely rarely thinks about you. You are nothing more than an afterthought to him.
You may feel that you are hurting him somehow by continuing to hate him for what he has done or said, but I assure you he couldn’t care less. In fact, if he knew how much time you spend replaying in your mind how he hurt you, he would probably be happy about it. After all, he is continuing to get the best of you and disturb your inner peace without even trying.
If you really want to get under his skin, forgive him and never think about him again. Hating someone makes him important; it keeps him alive in your mind. Forgiving him makes him obsolete; it makes him basically dead to you. You never have to think about him again, and that is the greatest fear that malicious people and trolls have. They want to have a place in your mind. They want to feel important.
When you forgive that person, you remove him from your mind. You take away what he most wants — a place in your life. By making him obsolete, you are making all of his hateful, malicious efforts wasted time on his part. And the best part is — you are setting yourself free!
Forgiving those who have hurt you is a winning move on your part. You bury the other guy and render his malicious actions moot, while you set yourself free. You can’t lose when you forgive those who have hurt you, but you have to have the self-control to set yourself free. When you do, you win the game!
