Watch Your Tongue when You are Angry
A man who never opens his mouth in anger can close his eyes in peace. Chinese Proverb
You should always use your words carefully as they can cause you problems that you can’t even comprehend at the time you are speaking. This is even more true when you are angry.
When you are angry, you tend to let your guard down and say things which can come back to cause you major problems. Your anger takes control of your tongue and your rational mind takes a back seat. You may not even realize what you have said until after the fact, but at that time, the damage has already been done.
Remember, you can never take words spoken in anger back, no matter how much you would like to. You may not even believe the things that you said in anger, but those words can cause hurt, anger, resentment, or hatred, and can be the seeds for someone’s revenge on you, even years after the fact.
And even if they do not manifest actual problems in your life, they will disrupt your inner peace. You will feel regret or sadness for the things you said or the hard feelings those words caused. Those words may even plant the seeds of anxiety in your mind, as you start to worry about the possible affects those words had on the other person or will have in your life later on.
When you are angry, be extremely careful about the words you choose to speak. If you can’t control your tongue at that time, then be silent until you can speak purposely and rationally. Never allow anger to dictate your speech. Control your anger, don’t let it control you!
